Walters, Ressell & Craig join the 2024 Nomads Winner’s Circle

4 July 2024 – One of GolfRSA and the Nomads Golf Club of South Africa’s primary objectives is to promote junior golf development by providing a strong national competitive platform where our rising talents can gain experience, improve their skills and test themselves at the highest level.

The recent June | July holidays were jam-packed with national events and what a treat to see the blossoming talent rise to the occasion!

2024 Nomads SA Boys U-17 Championship

Henru Walters celebrated his first success on the GolfRSA junior national circuit when he edged Nicholas Thompson for the Nomads SA Boys U-17 Championship title at Kimberley Golf Club.

Three off the pace after rounds of 69 and 70, the Durbanville Golf Club member made a shaky start on the final day with successive bogeys. He immediately rallied with a birdie on the par-5 third and was back to the level for the round after a birdie on the seventh.

The 2024|2025 GolfRSA National Squad inductee let another shot slip on the ninth but righted the ship with a birdie on the 10th and a further gain on the par-4 13th got him into red figures. to get under par for the first time.

Solid over the last five holes, Walters parred his way home for a round of 71 and walked in a two-shot victory over Thompson.

Nomads National Order of Merit Inland 2 and Coastal 2

Pecanwood’s Jason Ressel and GolfRSA National Squad member Roelof Craig joined the first-time national champions list for 2024 with superb performances in the second Nomads National Order of Merit (NOoM) Inland and Coastal events during the school holidays.

Ressell went wire-to-wire in the NOoM Inland at Modderfontein Golf Club, while NOoM Coastal champion Craig was the only player to fire three sub-par rounds at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Finding himself in contention for the first time on the GolfRSA national junior circuit, Ressell displayed impressive mental fortitude under pressure from Grant Labuschagne, and GolfRSA National Squad duo Johndre Ludick and Fabrizio de Abreu in the final round to hold on the for a three-stroke victory.

Craig had come close a few times this season, and it all finally came together for the Gauteng North junior in Gqeberha.

He began the second round just one off the pace after an opening four-under-par 68, but a solid 70 on day two earned him a share of the lead with JL de Bruin on six-under.

Level through his first 15 holes on the final day, the Silver Lakes junior holed a superb putt on the par-4 16th for eagle to pull one shot clear of De Bruin and the rest of the chasing pack.

He protected his narrow lead with par the tough 17th and finished with a birdie at the closing hole to secured a two-shot breakthrough victory on nine-under-par 209.
