Yvette du Plessis plays exceptional golf to win at Rondebosch

During the morning round Yvette du Plessis played exceptional golf in perfect weather with light variable winds, to lead on 68 (par 72). Three shots off the pace were Rondebosch member Vanessa Smith, Kim Williams from Centurion and Rustenburg junior, Bertine Strauss.

By the afternoon the weather had changed and Rondebosch gave the visitors a real Cape welcome. The rain came down and the wind picked up for about an hour and half. But by 3pm the perfect weather returned with really good golfing conditions.

Vanessa made a few too many errors, but the three leaders had a fantastic tussle. Yvette went out with a few birdies, and then droppied some shots on the way in. Eventually she shot a one over 73 in the afternoon, with Bertine scoring another solid 71. Kim was one shot further back on 72.

Western Province attracted a large field of 96 players in the 18 and under section of their Championships and tomorrow the top 16 players in each division commence the match play while the 19 and over handicaps play their stroke play championship.
