Yvette du Plessis leads Mid Amateur by seven strokes

Western Province’s Yvette du Plessis increased her lead to seven strokes (148) from Kingswood’s Sandra Winter (156) in round two of the SPAR SA Mid Amateur Ladies’ Championship played at Kingswood Golf Estate today. Both players carded three over 75s with Rose Powell (Vryheid, KZN) returning a 76 to join them in the final group teeing off at 8.04am in the last round tomorrow (Wednesday 10 November). Yvette is seen here with playing partner Sonja Bland.

du Plessis’ first round playing partners Gilly Tebbutt and Sonja Bland fell back today, carding 84 and 87 respectively.

Occasional showers and fresh south westerly wind made conditions more difficult today but having played the course yesterday, most players’ course management improved and particularly the longer handicapped players returned improved scores today.

Yvette can expect a charge tomorrow from veteran Gilly Tebbutt and Sandra Winter playing on her home course.

In the B Division, Knysna’s Shelley-Rae Colannini leads the field on 176 (88, 88) with Mossel Bay’s Christa Venter three strokes back on 179 (91, 88). Overnight leader, Ceres’ Hendrien van der Merwe had an unfortunate 13 at the 18th hole to finish on 98 to fall back to sixth position.
