Williams walks it

Steve Williams (44) showed a clean pair of heels on a gruelling 36 hole final day as he out lasted his younger counter parts to win the Northern Amateur.

With that much golf in a day, most would have supported the young guns to be victorious but seasoned campaigner Williams was confident. Going in to the final day, Williams trailed by 2 and after a chat and some advice from his brother, seasoned Sun Shine Tour campaigner Chris Williams, Steve set about his round one shot at a time. Trailing George Coetzee by 3 shots with 18 holes to play, Williams returned his third successive 2 under par 70 to post a four round total of 278 (-10) with rounds of 68;70;70 and 70.

Courtesy of his win, Steve enters the match play draw as top seed and will play Jonothan Josset in the first round.

Charl Coetzee, after a dissapointing SA Amateur, appears to be finding some form again and charged through the field with the best final 36 holes of -7 and ended in a share of second spot with George Coetzee on 281 (-7). Half way leader JbeKruger crashed out of contention with a third round 78 (+6) before regrouping to post a final round 68 and a four round total of 282 (-6) to share fourth spot with fellow National team mates, Dandre Neumeyer and Christiaan Basson.
