WGSA President looks forward to Nomads SA Girls
WGSA President Cynthia Rayner sends a message to all the lucky girls competing in this year’s Nomads’ SA Girls Championship.
It’s June – out with the beanies and the gloves that have been packed away for many months, and get ready for that special experience at Orkney in the North West Province. The Nomads SA Girls Championship has come around again and we all know what that means … a lot of fun, meeting up with old friends, making new ones, and giving your best to show that your golf has improved since last year. The events will be played from 24 to 26 June.
It will be wonderful to be back at Orkney Golf Club – few faces change at this club, and it really does feel like home when we walk up the front steps and are made to feel so welcome. Can we ever thank Nita van Niekerk and her very special team of ladies enough for their support and Manager Hein Kucher. They go out of their way every year to ensure that all our requests are met and then still spoil us in many different ways.
The NOMADS have now become the naming sponsor of both of our national girls’ championships and we are most grateful to them for their generous financial support. This event, in particular, allows all girls the opportunity to compete against their peers, irrespective of their means, as Nomads sponsor all the expenses incurred. All they need to do is show their Union that they are working at their golf and the invitation is there. The Golforama section of Nomads is responsible for live scoring at all the professional golf tournaments in South Africa. The income that they generate through their hard work at these events allows us to become one of their beneficiaries.
Looking at the current Junior Order of Merit, five of the top six players on these rankings were placed in the top five positions at this event last year. Lara Weinstein must surely want to add her name to the Championship Trophy, having been the Under 16 Champion twice (2009 and 2010). We expect exciting golf this year and there are a number of outsiders amongst the top 15 junior girls who could cause an upset.
This year we will be providing three hole live scoring for the A & B divisions on our website www.wgsa.co.za. We are sure that many parents will appreciate watching their daughters’ progress at Orkney.
Enjoy!
