WGSA duo sizzle on Sunshine Ladies Tour

Congratulations to GolfRSA Elite Squad player Symone Henriques and Chiara Contomathios, who performed superbly in the last two events on the 2017 Sunshine Ladies Tour.

A week ago, Symone started with an unhappy first round 82 in the weather-hit Sunshine Ladies Tour Classic sponsored by Canon at Glendower Golf Club.

However, the 15-year-old from Glenvista stunned the pros by posting the lowest second round score – a superb five-under-par 67 – in the afternoon to rocket upwards on the leaderboard. She finished off with a 75 to bank the amateur prize with a winning score of 224.

Chiara finished in the front of the pack for a second time this season when she led the amateur leaderboard at the Sun International Ladies Challenge.

The long-legged Wanderers junior, who also won the leading amateur honour in the Cape Town Ladies Open, carded rounds of 77, 71 and 73 at the challenging Gary Player-designed Lost City Golf Course.

She ended in a tie for 18th on five-over-par 221 with Ladies European Tour campaigner Lynn Carlsson from Sweden.

Catherine Lau, the amateur winner in the Ladies Tshwane Open last month, edged out Lenanda van der Watt for second in a count-out on 227.
