Western Province and Ekurhuleni in dominant form

Western Province and Ekurhuleni remain the only two unbeaten teams in the A Section after the second round of the South African Mid Amateur Inter Provincial which is being played at Worcester Golf Club in the Boland.

Western Province hammered neighbours Boland, 8 points to 4, in yesterday’s first round, which was played in driving wind and rain. Enjoying lovely sunshine on Tuesday, the Province team beat Gauteng North 7 point to 5 to go top of the A Section log having won 15 games in all.

Surprisingly, to all except the determined members of the team, in second place, are Ekurhuleni. They dispensed of their more illustrious neighbours yesterday, Central Gauteng, by 7.5 points to 4.5. Showing scant respect for the record books, defending champions Kwazulu Natal proved no match going down to Ekurhuleni 5 points to 7.

The B Section remained a topsy turvy affair with no team showing any intention of dominating the competition.

Eastern Province remain top of the B Section log this despite losing handsomely to both Free State & Northern Cape and Southern Cape on Tuesday. It was only their strong showing in the first round when they beat Limpopo and North West winning 19 games and halving one in the process that enabled them to retain their position at the end of the second day’s play.

Free State have won one match and drawn two, only as a result of having won one game less than the log leaders, do they find themselves in second position on the log.

The third round will be played on Wednesday. The final round, of the five day competition, will be played on Friday.
