Vorster and Nienaber share lead in Rustenburg

Mossel Bay’s Martin Vorster and Wilco Nienaber from Bloemfontein share the first round lead in the Nomads SA Boys U-15 Championship in the North West Province.

The pacesetters carded two-under-par 70s at Rustenburg Golf Club and lead by two from Leopard Creek’s Jean-Jaques Rossouw.

Vorster and Nienaber finishes three strokes clear of Woodhill’s Werner Deyzel and Rigardt Albertse from Dundee and four ahead of Xander Prinsloo from Randpark.

Vorster started with two pars, but dropped a shot at the par-12th. The Louis Oosthuizen Academy member reeled in a pair of birdies before the turn and added another brace of birdies at the third and fourth to dip into red numbers.

He closed with a bogey, however, which left the door open for Nienaber to claim a share of pole position.

The Free State junior birdied the first, fourth and eighth holes to turn in three under, but gave a stroke back at the par-five 14th.
