Two Gautengs lead as SA Juniors thump WP

The SA Juniors team drilled hosts Western Province by 10 points to 2 in the second round of the South African Challenge Cup being played at Metropolitan Golf Club in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Playing in perfect weather on the well prepared 9 hole layout, that the majestic Cape Town Stadium towers over, the cream of South Africa’s young golfing talent started their match off well taking all four foursomes matches. And it did not get better for Western Province as singles matches began to unfold. The hosts won their first and only match when Lean Boezaart, playing in the last match for the host union, beat Zander Lombard on the final hole.

As expected Central Gauteng and Gauteng North both won their matches, the former beating the SA Universities team 8 points to 4 and the latter edging out a determined Presidents Team by 6.5 points to 5.5.

Central Gauteng and Gauteng North now lead the log together, both having recorded the same number of points and having won the same number of games.

SA Juniors emphatic victory moves them up into third place after the second round.

The third round is played tomorrow. Central Gauteng take on hosts Western Province. The Presidents Team play SA Universities. The match to watch however will be that of Gauteng North against the SA Juniors.

The final round will be played on Friday.
