Three teams on back foot for SA IPT relegation
Ekurhuleni strengthened their bid for promotion with a 3-1 lead after the B-Section foursomes at Rustenburg Golf Club this morning, but the scales have tipped in the A-Section with three teams now battling to avoid regelation at this year’s South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest.
Central Gauteng bookended the log at the end of round four, but a 3-1 result in the foursomes vaulted the team to third in the rankings and landed the Garden Route side in the thick of things.
Southern Cape slipped to fourth on four points alongside fifth-placed Boland, who lost 3-1 to Western Province.
The two teams will carry a slender one point lead over KwaZulu-Natal into the singles, who are on the back foot after a 2-all draw with this year’s champions, Gauteng North.
In the B-Section, Ekurhuleni extended their lead to 12 points while North West moved into second on 10 points after coming up trumps in the foursomes with a 2.5 – 1.5 result against Free State & Northern Cape.
However, even if the host union could score eight points in the singles, they would draw level with the log leaders, who will need to win just one singles game to secure their promotion.
In other results, Limpopo and Eastern Province drew 2-all.
