Tanya Tibshraeny wins Hemingways EC and Border Champs
Eastern Cape organised this year’s Eastern Cape and Border Championships which were played at Port Alfred Golf Club in great weather this week. However some of the Border players had a torrid time getting to the events as witnessed by the photo on the right.
Tanya Tibshraeny earned herself the perfect send-off when she won the event on 154 (78, 76) one stroke ahead of Yolanda Duma on 155 (79, 76). She leaves for college golf in Arizona this month and follows in the steps of two other EC golfers, Tanica van As and Iliska Verwey who have spent time playing college golf in America.
Yolanda gave Tanya a run for her money but the E Cape player managed to hold on to win by one stroke. Yolanda matched Tanya’s Saturday afternoon round of 76 but her morning score of 79 was one adrift of the EC golfer.
13-Year old Tara Griebenow scored 167 (81, 86) to win the B Division (10 – 18 handicaps) and 10-year old Jamie-Lee Daniels picked up the C Division Trophy on 182 (90, 92).
Jamie-Lee also scored the best nett for the 36 holes and the best am nett. She also won the Junior Trophy and looks like a future champion in the making.
The teams competition was played on Sunday with the EC combination of Illiska Verwey, Tanica van As, Lynn Slogrove, Linda Maritz, Sandra Pienaar, Hermien Jones, Tanya Tibshraeny andf Ethne Brouard taking the honours ahead of Border.
