Tanica van As wins in Durban

Former Eastern Cape star Tanica van As, now resident in KZN, won th36 hole Durban Regional Championships played at Bluff National Park Country Club on Sunday in blustery difficult conditions.

Playing off a two handicap out of Unhlali Country Club, Tanica scored 148 (73, 73), four strokes ahead of Namibian Junior Bonita Bredenhann on 152 (78, 74) and Gauteng Junior Lara Weinstein on 158 (78, 80).

Dry conditions, fast difficult greens and the tunnel effect of the wind blowing across the 71 par course, accounted for the high scores returned by most of the players.

In an email to WGSA after attending a squad training course, Tanica wrote “The mental and physical training that we received last week at Serengeti was very valuable. I played in the Durban Region Championships yesterday and felt that the training that I received from Val, Sandra and Stephen really helped my game move in the right direction. For the first time in a long time I felt comfortable both mentally and physically on the course which helped me to perform better than a have in a while.”
