Strong Field At Sanlam SA Amateur

The 2006 SANLAM SA Amateur will have the strongest International field of any Amateur event seen in South Africa in recent times.

On an invite by the South African Golf Association, 17 countries took the opportunity to enter a total of 71 players to represent their National Federations and thus have an exploratory outing at the courses that later in the year will host the Eisenhower Trophy.

With the reigning British Amateur Champion, Brian McIlhinney (Golfing Union of Ireland) in the field and a number of other notable players from across the world, the local players will have a hard time keeping the National title on home soil.

George Coetzee, the defending Champion, has recently returned from college in the USA and will start the Championship with hopes of being the first player scince T. Webber in 1977&78 to succesfully defend the title.
