Southern Cape, Mpumalanga turn up the heat

Southern Cape strengthened their title bid with a dominant performance in the fourth round Foursomes, while Mpumalanga will hope to convert their early advantage into victories to chase down B-Section log leaders Free State on day four of the South African U-19 Inter-Provincial at Worcester Golf Club.

Southern Cape got off to a flying start to win 3.5 points against Boland and beat Gauteng North 3 – 1.

Boland won three of their games to lead Gauteng North 3 – 1, while Central Gauteng won two and squared two matches to lead KwaZulu-Natal by the same margin.

Cool-hand Luke Mayo is definitely pitching in to help KwaZulu-Natal’s campaign.

The 16-year-old produced the shot of the fourth round Foursomes when he aced the par-three seventh at Worcester Golf Club
The Mount Edgecombe golfer wielded an eight-iron from 141 meters and his ace helped Mayo and partner Matt Saulez to square their game against Keelan van Wyk and Fritz Orren from Central Gauteng.

Free State has surged to 10 points in the battle for promotion, but Mpumalanga are hot in pursuit.

The side scored a 4 – 0 whitewash against Northern Cape and they won two games and halved another against North West to lead 2.5 – 1.5.

Eastern Province whipped Border 3.5 – 1.5, while North West lead Northern Cape 3 – 1.
