Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship heads for Pretoria

The beautiful Pretoria Country Club is the venue for the 2013 Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship. A total of 95 players, including entries from Botswana, Uganda and Zimbabwe, will tee up in the Championship Division on Sunday 14 April for the start of the 54 hole event. Determined to retain her trophy will be WGSA’s No 1 Ranked player Nobuhle Dlamini from Swaziland, who started her year by retaining the Eastern Cape Stroke Play and Match Play titles, then added the North West Championship and KZN Stroke Play and Match Play titles to her belt. However hot on her heels will be the next 6 top ranked players in the form of Kim Williams, Bianca Theron, Lara Weinstein, Magda Kruger, Michaela Fletcher and Monja Richards, who have all proved this year that they are definitely up to the challenge. There are ample recent top 5 finishes amongst this group of South Africa’s elite amateurs, so competition is expected to be tough. Also in contention and hoping to prove that age is not necessarily an advantage will be 12 year old Catherine Lau, still celebrating after her win at the Nomads Rose Bowl held at Selborne last week.

The “B” Division is wide open this year with last year’s winner Chiara Contomathios now in the Championship division. Players to watch will be youngsters such as 12 year old Crystal Beukes who won last month’s Western Province “B” Division Championship and 11 year old Kaiyuree Moodley, who was narrowly beaten into second place in the “B” Division at the Rose Bowl Championship. However, they will have to contend with experienced Lenza de Jager, playing on her home course, and she might well prove to be a major thorn in their young skins.

Spectators are welcome, and live scoring will be available on our website.
