SAGA bids farewell to Hannes Botha

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) extends its heartfelt condolences to Wilna, children Louis and Lize Botha, the grandchildren and friends of former SA Senior Golf chairman Hannes Botha, who passed away on Sunday morning, 17 April.

“We were deeply saddened to learn of Hannes’ passing,” said SAGA Acting President Geoff Taylor.

“Hannes fought a long and brave battle against cancer and it was wonderful to see him at the recent INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial and to celebrate the North West Province Super Senior team’s victory in the B-Division at Killarney Country Club with him on Friday night.”

Hannes not only served the chairman of SA Senior Golf, but also served on the executive at North West Golf Union for six years and was the chairperson and club captain at Potchefstroom Country Club.

“Hannes gave so much of himself to the game and his battle with cancer didn’t detract in the slightest from his undeniable passion for the game,” said SAGA Golf Integration Manager Eden Thompson.

“His re-election as the chairman of SA Senior Golf at the Annual General Meeting during the INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial last week underlined this passion. Throughout his battle with cancer, his contribution remained steadfast.

“His continuous efforts to develop the senior circuit in South Africa was immeasurable and his contribution to the growth of the game in North West will be his lasting legacy.”

Hannes Botha’s service will be held on Friday, 22 April at 11h00 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Parys Avenue, Potchefstroom.
