SA Win all first round matches
South Africa started there defence of the Zone VI title in the best possible way winning all eight singles matches in the first round played yesterday at Ndola Golf Club, in the Zambian copper belt situated in the northern part of the country.
“In the four years I have managed this team we have never won all our matches on the first day,” said team manager, Enver Hassen.
This means that South Africa lead with a full house of 8 points, following two points adrift are Zimbabwe and Kenya.
According to Hassen, Ryan Clarke had the hardest game, birding the 18th hole to go two up. Both Gauteng North players, Dylan Frittelli and Derik Ferreira did not have things their own way, the former was three down after three holes and clawed his way back to win the match 3 and 2, while Ferreira needed birdies on hole 14, 15 and 17 to win 3 and 1.
South Africa take on Kenya, Zambia, Lesotho and Namibia in Foursomes this morning and Botswana, Swaziland, Malawi and Uganda this afternoon player Better Ball.
The competition concludes on Thursday.
