SA trails France in Test at Golf de Medoc

South Africa’s top ranked mid-amateurs are on the back foot after the French took command on the opening day of the two-day Test at the Golf Du Medoc Resort near Bordeaux in France.

The teams were level with one win each in the Foursomes, but the French finished the day at the Vignes Course one point clear of South Africa after the afternoon Betterball games.

SA Volvo Mid-Amateur Stroke Play champions Graeme Watson and Greg Sheard combined to beat Greg Brizay and Loic Arrieula 1-up, while Josef Fourie and David Muller lost to Julien Brocas and Stephan Barosa at the last hole in the Foursomes.

In the second session, Watson and Sheard managed to square their Betterball game against Arrieula and Barosa, but Brizay and Brocus slammed Fourie and Muller 3 & 1 to put the French in the driver’s seat at 2.5 – 1.5.

The curtain-raiser to the prestigious International Team Mid-Amateur Championship, which tees off on Friday, concludes with the Singles at the par-72 Chateaux Course on Thursday.
