SA Team leaves for Jakarta

The South African team of Bertine Strauss and Lara Weinstein, together with Manager Erica Lefson, left OR Tambo yesterday to defend the Jakarta World Junior Championship Governer’s Cup which was won by South Africa in 2008.

Bertine will be playing in Group A age 15 – 17 which was won by Monique Smit in 2008, while Lara will again be participating in Group B age 13 – 14. WGSA received the invitation from the championship committee who once again offered to pay all expenses for the event, including the airfares to Indonesia.

Adidas and TaylorMade were the clothing sponsors and the team looked great.

Travelling with the South Africans were Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini, recent winner of the South African Match Play Championship and Namibia’s Bonita Bredenhann who last week partnered Bertine Strauss and Nicole Becker to win the WGSA 72 Hole Teams Championship played at East London.

The event will be played over 54 holes and starts on Tuesday 2 June.
