SA Quartet set to start RAACT title hunt
GolfRSA Elite Squad members Zethu Myeki and Sarah Bouch, reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur champion Lumien Orton and captain Vicki Traut will start the hunt for South Africa’s sixth consecutive title in the Regional All-Africa Challenge Trophy (RAACT) at the Maseru Golf Club in Lesotho on Wednesday.
The local quartet joined fellow competitors Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia and the host nation in the official practice round at the Maseru Golf Club on Tuesday.
South Africa’s number two ranked Myeki, who partnered Ivanna Samu and Kaleigh Telfer to a 12th All-Africa Challenge Trophy victory in Tunisia last year, said she expects a low scoring week.
“We found the course shorter than what we are used to back home and there are definitely birdie chances out there,” said the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation player.
“The par fives are reachable in two and the par threes are not too long either. The par fours are a bit more challenging, and the pace of the greens are a bit slow and took some adjustment, but we all enjoyed our first look at the course and we are ready to start our title hunt.
“We have to congratulate the course staff and the organising committee for hosting the RAACT. Like South Africa, Lesotho has also had its share of water problems, and although the course is dry, they have done a fantastic job to present us with a great layout this week.”
