SA pair ready for Girls British Amateur

South Africa’s Magda Kruger and Bianca Theron completed the final round of the Annika Invitational Europe in Sweden on Friday and will be off to the United Kingdom this weekend to prepare for the Girls British Open Amateur Championship at the Fairhaven Golf Club in Lytham St. Annes from 12-16 August.

The second Annika Invitational Europe was won by Denmark’s Malene Hansen, who fired a final round 65 to clinch the championship with a winning total of 11-under-par 205.

While the Dane celebrated her come-from-behind victory, South Africa’s leading juniors experienced a strange twist of fortune at the Landskrona Golf Club.

Kruger began the last 18 just five shots off the pace after earlier rounds of 70 and 74, but imploded with a nine-over-par 81 to slip to a tie for 19th on nine-over-par 225.

Meanwhile Theron from Boland, who battled with her swing over the first two days and carded rounds of 82 and 78, found her rhythm and closed with a sweet 72, vaulting to joint 37th on 16-over-par 232.

Both players will be working hard on their games over the two practice days at the Fairhaven course before the lining up for the 36-hole stroke play qualifier.

Only the top 64 qualifiers will advance to the match play stages.
