SA leads windy All-Africa Junior

Herman Loubser, Dylan Mostert and Dylan Naidoo got South Africa’s title defence in the 2016 All-Africa Junior Golf Championship off to a solid start in Sousse, Tunisia on Wednesday.

The trio combined for an opening six-over-par 225 at the El Kantaoui Golf Course and the SA team will start the second round with an 11 stroke lead over last year’s silver medallists, Zimbabwe.

“The wind blew an absolute gale out there,” said SAGA Golf Integration Manager Eden Thompson, who accompanied the team to Tunisia.

“The club advised wind speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour and the field definitely battled, especially on the exposed back nine of the South Course.

“Herman posted a one-over-par 74, Dylan (Mostert) contributed a 75 and Dylan (Naidoo) added a 76 to put us at the top of the standings.

“Marco (Steyn) had a really tough first nine after starting with a triple bogey eight and turned eight over, but in in typical fashion he bounced back and played the back nine in one over for an 82.

“We are in a solid position after the first round and we look forward to see what the weather will dish up for us on Thursday.”
