SA keeps pole position in AACT
Ivanna Samu and Kaleigh Telfer kept South Africa in the driver’s seat in the 13th All-Africa Challenge Trophy despite delays and wet conditions that tested the patience at Golf Citrus in Hammemet, Tunisia on Thursday.
After putting South Africa in front with an opening one-over-par 145, the pair posted 152 at the La Foret course to top the leaderboard at nine-over-par 297.
The defending champions lead by 14 shots from Morocco and 24 shots from Tunisia.
Zimbabwe combined for 159 to climb to fourth on 324 ahead of Zambia and 2014 silver medallists Kenya, who shares fifth on 334 after respective rounds of 172 and 169.
Following a two hour suspension of play due to heavy rain that left the course unplayable, number one ranked Samu set the pace for South Africa with a three over 75, while Telfer returned a 77 and Zethu Myeki posted a non-counting 81.
Telfer held on to her first place in the Individual Standings on 148 and leads by one from Samu.
Morocco’s Lina Belmati is seven strokes back in third after an 80 and local favourite Kenza Ladhari moved into fourth on 157 with a 76.
Myeki’s 81 saw her finish in a tie for eighth o 161 alongside Celestine Nawa from neighbouring Zambia, who registered an 80.
