SA in 8th position going into final round of The Spirit
The SA Girls finsihed three under on day three of The Spirit being played at Whispering Pines and tied ninth in the women’s competition on -1 while the men are tied sixth on -9. The team is in eighth position on -10 going into the final round.
But the star of the tournament has to be Argentina’s Victoria Tanco who has notched up 14 birdies in three days of superb golf. There are six men tied on 10 birdies each. Haydn Porteus continues to lead the South Aficans on eight birdies, Ruan de Smidt and Iliska Verwey have five each and Kim Williams has four.
Kim Williams reports
Today Iliska and I played well but we can still do better. We still missed good birdie opportunities and made a silly drop on 18. Tomorrow we are going to try do what we did today by attacking the holes we are comfortable with and treating the ones we aren’t with caution. This approach helped us today and we dove-tailed nicely to bring in a three under.
We are both really happy with our games at the moment although our putting is not quite what it should be. With that said we trying to help each other as much as possible on the greens so that when we are ready to putt we can trust the line we both decided on, this seemed to help today and we will be sure to do it again tomorrow and go for it.
If we can bring in a really low round tomorrow we might sneak onto the podium.
