SA have slender lead going into final round

The South African eight man team have a slender lead going into Friday’s fourth and final round of the annual Zone VI Championship which is being played at the Nyali Golf & Country Club near Mombasa, Kenya.

With eight singles matches being played on Friday the South Africa team’s slender 1.5 point lead, over defending champions and hosts Kenya, makes for an enthralling final day.

Two matches to look out for are that of Stefan Andersen, from Kenya, against Jared Harvey and the talented Zimbabwean Scott Vincent up against CJ du Plessis. These are two must win matches for the South African team if they want to win this year’s championship. Andersen is one of Kenya’s top amateurs while Vincent has participated in South African amateur golf tournaments with great success and is more than likely to provide du Plessis with a lot to think about.

There are ten African countries in all participating. Each match counts for one point. Players from a national team play against a player or pairing of another in each round. For example in the singles, which for each country comprises eight matches, South Africa will play against eight players each from one of the participating nations.

A full report will follow the conclusion of this round.
