SA claim top five at Juan Carlos Tailhade

South Africa’s Gerlou Roux and Callum Mowat claimed a top five finish in the 42ndJuan Carlos Tailhade Cup at the Los Lagartos Country Club near Pilar in Argentina on Sunday.

Western Province’s Roux carded a three-over-par 74 round while Mowat from Central Gauteng closed with a 79 to give the team a final round total 153.

Spain’s Mario Aguilar and David Ayra completed the country’s winning march to their first victory in the prestigious team championship with a pair of 73s to top the leaderboard at 578.

Defending champions Australia posted a final round 140 to finish two strokes off the pace and host nation Argentina took third on 587.

The South African pair closed on 594, one stroke behind fourth placed Ireland.

The Dane Nicolai Kristensen won the Individual Competition by two shots from Spain’s Aguilar on even-par 284 and three clear of Australian Jarryd Felton. Roux tied for eighth on 293, while Mowat finished joint 25th in the individual standings.
