Royal Durban hosts Bridge Junior Series opener

4 September 2019 – The iconic Royal Durban Golf Club will launch the third season of the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series on Sunday, 8 September 2019 where the field of boys and girls will have their sights set on the ultimate prize – an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the Junior North and South Championship at Pinehurst, USA in 2020.

Season two saw Western Province rising star Tyran Snyders become the first South African to win the 41st North and South Championship at Pinehurst, which has hosted the Ryder Cup and three U.S. Open Championships.

The Durbanville Golf Club junior, who was recently named to the GolfRSA National Squad, now has his name emblazoned on the Perpetual Wall in Pinehurst’s main clubhouse and the victory earned him a return trip for the 2020 Men’s North & South Amateur.

“I can’t thank Bridge Fund Managers enough for giving our juniors a chance to compete for this experience. It was incredible to tee it up in a tournament where you rub shoulders with the cream of US junior amateur golf. This was undoubtedly the highlight of my career and I couldn’t be happier or prouder,” said Snyders.

The #BridgeJuniorSeries, which launched in July 2017, is endorsed by GolfRSA and managed by the SA Golf Development Board.

Open to boys and girls in the Under-13 and Under-19 divisions, the popular junior golf development series is played across 18 tournaments at leading courses countrywide. The second season attracted more than 1500 entries.

The 18 Under-19 tournament winners will contest 36-hole regional finals in April 2020 with the two winners jetting off to Pinehurst.

“The Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series has captured the imagination of boy and girl golfers of all abilities, and we have been delighted by the bumper fields and quality of golf,” says Paul Stewart, Chief Executive at Bridge Fund Managers. “Tyran set the bar high last season and we look forward to what the next generation of talented players will produce in season three.”

TaylorMade Golf has also renewed its support for the Series and will provide prizes for the outstanding young golfers at the 18 regional events, as well as the two finals.

“Passion, love and respect for this incredible game of golf starts at a young age, and through the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series, we at TaylorMade Golf are able to play a small part in contributing towards this over the season ahead,” says TaylorMade Golf brand manager Aaron Russell.

“To all participants, play in the best spirit of the game and enjoy making incredible memories, but more importantly friendships for life with your fellow golfers”

Grant Hepburn, CEO of Golf RSA, encouraged young golfers across to head for the website to enter as the tournaments provide opportunities for juniors to hone their tournament craft and make new friends.
