Rest in peace, Mrs Rules

It is with great sadness that we learned of Carol Goldsbury’s passing on Friday morning 10th of March. Fondly known as ‘Mrs Rules’, Carol lost her battle against cancer.

On behalf of GolfRSA, the South African Golf Association, Womens Golf South Africa and the South African Disabled Golf Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Carol’s husband Chris and their families.

A former Women’s Golf Western Province President, Carol’s enthusiasm for the Rules of Golf was legendary and her willingness to share her knowledge was tireless.

Apart from being involved in the founding of the Western Province Golf Referees Association, she was also heavily invested at club level and devoted her time to rules education and refereeing. She was always available whenever a ruling was sought, whether on the course or lately as a telephone referee. Her vast knowledge, her experience and her insight in the Rules will be missed.

We have all lost a dear friend and a wonderfully kind and dedicated mentor to a vast number of referees, administrators and rules officials. Carol leaves us with an indelible void and we will miss her dedication to junior golf, amateur golf and disabled golf – both in the Western Province and on a national level.

A memorial service for Carol will be held on the 31st of March at 11h00 at Kelvin Grove (144 Campground Road, Newlands, Cape Town)
