Rebula in the mix at North & South USA
South African junior Jovan Rebula is making waves across the Atlantic after a superb first round performance in the Junior North and South Championship in the United States.
The Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation member from George fired a three-under-par 69 at the Number Eight course at Pinehurst to tie American David Kocher in the 36th edition of the prestigious international event.
Rebula birdied the 10th, 12th and 14th and cancelled a bogey at the 16th with birdie number four at the 17th to turn in three under.
The 16-year-old Southern Cape golfer negated two more bogeys on the back nine with birdies at the first and seventh to finish at three under.
Kocher turned in even par before reeling in four consecutive birdies from the 14th to tie the South African in pole position.
The leading pair is one shot clear of American Kim Geuntae and three ahead of Nick Stafford, another American entrant.
Rebula is just one of two foreigners lining up against the top American juniors in the world class event.
