Raad leads as Oosthuizen makes his move

Robbie Oosthuizen, the defending champion, recorded a one under par 71 to reduce the gap on the two over night leaders after third and penultimate round in the South African Mid Amateur Championship being played today at ERPM Golf Club in Ekurhuleni.

Oosthuizen has a 54 hole total of 216, three shots from leader Norman Raad (74).

“The course was setup longer today which accounts for the higher scoring,” said Bruce Younge, South African Golf Association Executive Director and Tournament Director.

Pieter Cooper, who shared the overnight lead with Raad, recorded a 75 today and is one shot behind Raad on 214, two under par. The leading pair, after last night’s second round, had a comfortable five shot lead going into today’s round.

The final round will be played tomorrow. With the leaders now more bunched than after the second round, it makes for an exciting finale. All eyes will be on Oosthuizen, the defending champion from Western Province, to see if he can make it two in a row.
