Province A lurks at Pick n Pay SA Womens IPT

A Division leaders Gauteng North A enjoyed another successful day at Port Elizabeth Golf Club, but the defending champions can hardly afford to relax after Western Province A moved within striking distance at the Pick n Pay SA Women’s Inter-Provincial on Thurday.

The Cape side took a 2-1 lead against Gauteng North B in the foursomes and extend their advantage in the afternoon singles to win their Section A match.

Zayb Kippie, Yvette du Plessis, Cara Gorlei and Ji Sun Kang thumped their opponents to add four points, while Vanessa Smith and Kelly Erasmus halved their matches to secure a 7-5 win.

Meanwhile the log leaders also won two of their three foursomes, but they favourites certainly had their job cut out to hold off a spirited challenge from Gauteng A to stay in control.

Gauteng A’s Eleonora Galletti beat Marne Clack 6&5 to get her side going.

Shawnelle de Lange, Lauren Bekker, Kaleigh Telfer and Lara Weinstein all rallied to halve their matches, but Gauteng North claimed a 5-4 win when Magda Kruger defeated Michelle Leigh 5&3.

With just one point the difference, it will bound to be a ding-dong battle between Gauteng North A and Western Province A when the two giants go head-to-head in the final round.

Ekurhuleni beat North West 7-2 to keep ahead in the B-Section log. The side leads on four points, one point clear of KwaZulu-Natal, who squared off 4.5 – 4.5 against North West.
