Promotion battle on knife’s edge

The drama continues to build in the B-Section battle for promotion in the 55th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, after Gauteng North and KwaZulu-Natal squared the final round Foursomes at Glendower Golf Club on Friday.

KWAZULU-NATAL 2 – GAUTENG NORTH 2
James du Preez and Ross Sinclair took the first scalp for Gauteng North when the pair trounced IPT stalwart Gavin Sole and Siyanda Mwandla KZN 6 & 4, but Clayton Mansfield and Malcolm Mitchell tied the match at 1-all with a 5 & 3 win against Jason Smith and Teaghan Gauche.

KZN rookies Gregory McKay and Aneurin Gounden downed Marco Loubser and Andrew van der Knaap 3 & 2, but the Foursomes ended in a 2-all draw after Keegan de Lange and Hendrikus Stoop beat Matt Saulez and Luke Mayo 1-up.

MPUMALANGA 2 – FREE STATE 2
Devon Strydom and Hannes van Dyk beat Juran Dreyer and Roedu du Plessis 2-Up and Stephen Morrison combined with Kevin Smith to win 4 & 3 for Mpumalanga.

Blaine Dormehl and Heinrich Erasmus took out Lourens Volschenk and Jaun van Greunen 3 & 2 to reduce the gap and Richard Maree and Andre van Zyl squared the match when they defeated Mpumalanga’s Andre van Heerden and Quintin Wilsnach 3 & 1.

LIMPOPO 3 – NORTH WEST 1
SP Campher and Ruan Prigge won the first game 2 & 1, but the rest of the Limpopo team rallied to win three in a row to edge two points clear of Mpumalanga.

Peter Masehela and Menno Malherbe won 5 & 3 and Cameron Nesmith partnered Hilton Hughes to a 3 & 2 win. David Wiggill and Quinten Crause defeated Danie van Niekerk and Theunie Bezuidenhout 2-down.
