Promotion battle heats up at SA Country Districts

North West claimed a decisive 10-.5 – 1.5 victory over Border to get within striking distance of A-Section leaders Mpumalanga, while Free State and KwaZulu-Natal remain on course to in the B-Section battle for promotion in the SA Country Districts at ERPM Golf Club on Wednesday.

Mpumalanga enjoyed two successive victories, but crumpled under a spirited attack from Ekurhuleni.

Despite the loss, Mpumalanga hung on to pole position with four points, but North West and Ekurhuleni have moved in for the kill.

Both teams lag just one point off the pace and North West is just half a games point short of a tie. Mpumalanga will have the chance to extend their advantage against Border in round four, while Ekurhuleni will hunt another positive result against defending champions Boland.

North West has a bye and will no doubt be championing a close finish between Mpumalanga and Border to keep that games points difference as narrow as possible.

Meanwhile KwaZulu-Natal managed a narrow 6.5 – 5.5 victory against Southern Cape, Eastern Province downed Limpopo by the same margin, but Free State closed the gap on KZN in the B-Section battle for promotion after cruising to an 8.5 – 3.5 win against Northern Cape.

Both teams are undefeated and have six points each, but KwaZulu-Natal leads by one games point.
