Paula Creamer welcome players to The Spirit
WGSA President and Team Manager Erica Lefson reports, “It was a long 30 hours to reach our destination on a very full SAA flight.
“We are staying at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston and a very friendly Spirit Team of volunteers welcomed us and can’t do enough for everyone.
“The girls did their charity bit soon after arrival on Sunday when they went to the 1st Tee programme to each coach two youngsters. True to form, while the Yvette, Dylan and Yvette visited the space centre, Erica went shopping with Kim to the factory outlets, with Kim arriving back with more than her manager! “But she knew she only had this one opportunity to shop as from tomorrow we move up to whispering Pines and NO SHOPS – everything will focus on the golf.”
The Spirit Opening Ceremonies and Celebration Party took place on Monday evening. All 24 countries were involved in the international procession of athletes and other festive ceremonies, including musical entertainment. “It was fantastic, well organised and some good speeches. Paula Creamer did some thank you’s and spoke very well and they had Hank Haney, Tiger Woods coach as the speaker to motivate the players.”
The team moves on to the International Village at Camp Olympia and Whispering Pines Golf Club this morning and after lunch they are to participate in an International Team/Sponsor Tournament – shotgun start – fivesomes comprising the International Team with one amateur sponsor.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 4 November, all players will have practice rounds followed by dinner – a Texas Cookout Party!
The first round of the tournament commences on Thursday 5 November.
