Pace and De Lange share joy at Cell C SA Women’s Open
South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace celebrated an emotional victory in the Cell C SA Women’s Open at San Lameer Country Club when she defeated England’s Holly Clyburn at the second hole of a sudden-death play-off, but South Africa’s Shawnelle de Lange also had reasons for celebration.
The 16-year-old Gauteng amateur carded rounds of 77 and 76 and make the cut, set at nine-over-par 153, on the number. She rallied with a superb 73 in the final round to finish on 10 over par and tie French amateur Mathilda Cappeliez.
The pair shared the Jackie Mercer Trophy for the leading amateur in the championship.
