Oosthuizen’s protégé takes pole at SA Boys U-13
Louis Oosthuizen Junior Golf Academy member, Jordan Duminy, took pole position at the 36-hole mark of the prestigious Nomads SA Boys U-13 Championship on Tuesday.
One off the pace after an opening 74 at Wingate Park Country Club, the 11-year-old Southern Cape junior negated two bogeys with a pair of birdies for an even-par 73 in round two to take the lead at one-over-par 147.
Duminy leads by one from first round leader, Emerson Bam, who returned a 75, and fellow Southern Cape golfer, Barend Botha.
While the bulk of the field have struggled with the lightning fast and hard greens, Botha from Oubaai and Luka Stanisavljevic from Serbia got the measure of the championship layout to share the lowest round honour with a one-under-par 72s.
Botha was by far the most economical with a bogey at the seventh and birdies at the 13th and 15th holes.
In the Team Competition, Bam carded a 75, Kieron van Wyk returned a 77, Kian Rose registered an 80, Nkosenye Mwale posted an 83 and Noluthando Mdanda added an 84 for a second round 399 to keep Central Gauteng in the hunt.
However, Liam Van Deventer (73), Yurav Premlall (75), Casey Jarvis (77), Grant Ferreira (82) and Zamokuhle Nxasana (85) combined for a 392 to lift Ekurhuleni into a share of first with the overnight leaders.
Don’t be surprised if third placed Southern Cape serves up a surprise, though.
Last year, Duminy and company saved their best for the final round and leapfrogged Central Gauteng, who led the first two rounds, to claim the title by 11 strokes from Ekurhuleni.
