Oosthuizen moves to the front

Local lad Robbie Oosthuizen recorded the best round of the day on Thursday, a three under par 69, to take a one stroke lead, with a level par 54 hole total of 216, in the 72 hole South African Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championship being played at De Zalze Golf Club outside Stellenbosch.

Playing in tough windy and cool conditions, something the Western Province player, who is a member at Strand Golf Club, not far the championship venue, is familiar with, improved on his 18 hole score for the third consecutive day, something he hopes will continue through to the end of Friday’s final round.

Neil Homann, from Central Gauteng, retained his position, one shot behind the championship leader, despite recording a two over par score of 74, for a 54 hole total of 217, one over.

Steve Williams, who started the day one shot off the lead, struggled to a 83, eleven over par, effectively putting himself out of contention, with a 54 hole total of 227.

Overnight leader Conrad Amm also struggled, recording a 78, six over par, he is four shots off the pace on 220, four over par.

The final round is being played today, with the leaders teeing off at 11h40.
