North West wins the Swiss Team Trophy at the 72 Hole Champs

The team of Bertine Strauss, Bonita Bredenhann and Nicole Becker were hardly challenged as they teed off on the final day and won the Swiss Teams Trophy by 13 strokes from holder Gauteng North Daisies.

KwaZulu Natal’s B team picked up the new B division Challenge Trophy, with hosts Border 14 shots back. Limpopo finished in third position. Johmari Logtenberg, who has been playing competitive golf for only 18 months, spearheaded the KZN side with scores of 83, 74, 74 and 74 on this 73 par course. She was supported by Taryn Heyns and young Monique Ramkisson.Monique, Taryn and Johmari

The race for the individual 72 hole championship became a tight race between Bertine Strauss and Bonita Bredanhann. In the final round, they were level at the 15th. Bonita, playing ahead of Bertine, birdied the 16th to go one up. However Bertine matched her birdie and they were level once again. After a long wait on the par three 17th hole, Bonita pushed her drive right of the green and chipped to three metres of the pin. She putted past the pin and unfortunately missed the return to drop two shots. Bertine, watching the proceedings from the tee played her tee shot to four metres from the hole, had two regulation putts and subsequently claimed the championship – well-deserved after four rounds of steady golf. The winners with Evie Stott and Erica Lefson
