North West starts strong at SA U-19 IPT

North West Province took the lead in both of Foursomes against Border and Mpumalanga in the fourth round of the B-Division to set up their first B-Division victory in this year’s South African Under-19 Inter-Provincial Championship, while promotion hopefuls Boland leads Free State by one point at Krugersdorp Golf Club on Thursday.

North West Province vs Border vs Mpumalanga
North West Province halved one game against Border and lost one game against Mpumalanga to take a commanding position ahead of the afternoon Singles.

Andre van Dyk and Patrick Ntoagae beat Nicklas van Wyk and Jan Hendrik Jacobs 1-up and hammered Riley and Tristan Naude from Border 7 & 6.

Christiaan and Johann Burke defeated Ryan Stenzel and Lee Morrison from Mpumalanga 2 & 1, but halved against Courtney Wicks and Jarred Scharneck.

Herman Anderson and Tiaan Maree downed Mpumalanga’s Andre van Heerden and Ivan Mare 2 & 1, while combining to hand Willem Boshoff and Michael Owen a 6 & 5 drubbing.

Philip Niemand partnered Aldre Terblanche to a 3 & 2 victory against Border’s Chuma Adonis and Byron Toogood, but lost to 2 & 1 to Mpumalanga’s Francois van Staden and Banele Mavuso.

Van Staden and Mavuso also triumphed against Andonis and Togood to put Mpumalanga in the driver’s seat against Border.

Van Heerden and Mare won 4 & 2 and Jacobs and Van Wyk claimed a 3 & 2 result for a 3 – 1 lead going into the Singles.

Boland vs Free State
With KwaZulu-Natal enjoying a day of leisure, Boland will want to hammer down a victory against Free State to match the log leaders with six points ahead of the final round of Friday.

Free State is not taking any pity on the Bolanders, though, and held them to just a one point advantage after the Foursomes.

Eduard de Villiers and Erhard Lambrechts won the first game for Boland 2 & 1, and Dylon Jacobs and Herman Loubser combined to win the second game, also 2 & 1.

However, HP van der Merwe and Hennie O’Kennedy were tested by Louis Fourie and Steven le Roux and came away with just a half point.

Keelan Africa and Tiaan Strydom met their match in Wilco Nienaber and Franco Froneman, though, who took the game at the 18th for Free State’s first full point.

FOURSOMES RESULTS – ROUND FOUR
North West Province 3.5 – Border 0.5
North West Province 3 – Mpumalanga 1
Mpumalanga 3 – Border 1
Boland 2.5 – Free State 1.5
