Nobuhle wins inaugural Ekurhuleni Stroke Play Championship

SA Stroke Play Champion Nobuhle Dlamini added another title to her name when she won the inaugural 54 hole Ekurhulei Stroke Play Championships at State Mines Golf Club Country Club this week. She is pictured here receiving her trophy from Ekurhuleni President Daphne Maynier and Derek Lindsay, Captain of Eastern’s Nomads.

Tied with Rustenburg’s Bertine Strauss after round one on 73, Nobuhle carded a one under 71 to Bertine’s level par 72 and CMR’s Jacqui Akers’ 73 in the second round.

But the champion pulled out all the stops in the final round to finish on three-under par 69 to win by five strokes on 213 from Bertine (218) who carded a one over 73. Jacqui was in third place on 229 (80, 73, 76).

The leading junior was Carrie Park on 237 (80, 78, 79).

The B Division was won by 10-year old State Mines’ Caitlyn McNab playing off a 13 handicap (she was a 26 when she played at SA Girls in 2011) so is showing great potential. She carded 179 (87, 92).

And another player with potential was Hope Bilankulu who won the Bronze Championship on 182 (90, 92)

Junior Liezl Bezuidenhout from Centurion holed her tee-shot at the par three 8th hole in the third round. This was her first hole-in one.
