Nobuhle is KZN Match Play Champion

Former South African Match Play Champion, Nobuhle Dlamini added another trophy to her already overflowing cabinet when she won the 2012 KwaZulu Natal match play championship at Maritzburg Golf Club yesterday.

The Swazi national, now studying at Pretoria University, recorded a 4/2 defeat over Monja Richards who recently returned to the amateur ranks after a two-year stint as a pro.

In Febuary, Nobuhle won the double in the Eastern Cape Championships and earlier this month, was victorious in the North West Stroke Play Championship. These victories will give her added confidence as she heads to the Sanlam SA Stroke Play Championship at Umhlali Country Club from 15 to 17 April.

On her journey to the final at Maritzburg, Nobuhle defeated Gauteng’s Jacqui Akers, Free State’s Helena Buitendag and KZN’s Michaela Fletcher all by margins of 3/2. Monja notched up wins over KZN’s Bronwyn Rae 5/3, Limpopo’s Megan Bisset 2/1 and Gauteng’s Francesca Cuturi 3/2, before going down to the eventual champion.

The next event on the WGSA calendar is the Nomads SA Girls’ Rose Bowl to be played at Pearl Valley Golf Estates next Monday and Tuesday, 2 and 3 April. The event has attracted an entry of over 90 junior golfers.
