Nobuhle Dlamini wins second Privincial Championship of 2012

In a storm interrupted and subsequently shortened tournament, Gauteng North’s Nobuhle Dlamini won the 2012 North West championship on a two-under par 70 with Alana Van Greuning (Mpumalanga) winning the count-out into second place from top-ranked Kim Williams, both players returning level par 72.

Nobuhle is seen pictured here with North West President Cathy Mortimer.

Cathy Mortimer reports. “The day dawned with plenty of cloud cover to welcome enthusiastic golfers from Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Gauteng North, Free State and the host province North West. As the day progressed the weather conditions were great – – -fortunately not too hot – – – warm with a slight breeze.

“The players started the afternoon round with the same weather conditions but when the end of the field (the top players) had played about eight holes the weather turned sour and the sound of the siren halted play. While waiting for the weather to clear we had to make a decision – – – even if play was resumed the players would not have enough time to complete the round in day-light. So unfortunately the tournament was reduced to the first 18 holes completed.”

The NW “CLOSED” Champion was Michelle Swanepoel (Rustenburg GC) on 78 gross and Elru Botha (Zeerust GC) was runner-up on 79.

The 10-18 Handicap Division was won by Thelma Dippenaar (Rustenburg GC) on 90 gross with Ursula Oosthuizen (Wolmaransstad GC)as runner-up on 91.

With only 4players in the 19-36 Handicap Division there was only 1 prize – and that was won by Past NW President Rina Van Zijl (Potchefstroom GC) on 97.

Megan Bissett (Tzaneen GC) won the ALL DAY NETT prize with 70 nett.
