No place for discrimination or violence in SA golf

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) today stated that any acts of discrimination or violence by its members will not be tolerated.

“The SAGA does not discriminate on the basis of race, religious, sex or national origin, nor does it condone any form of violence from its members,” said SAGA Acting President Geoff Taylor.

“Acts of racial, ethnic or religious discrimination and / or violence and brings the game of golf into disrepute. It has no place at the SAGA and any person who engages in such acts or violate our policies in this regard will suffer consequences.”

This statement follows in the wake of an apparent assault of a member by four other members, involving racial discrimination, at Nelspruit Golf Club on 15 October 2016.

“All five members of the club were suspended following a hearing,” Taylor stated. “The matter is also being further investigated by the South African Police Service.

“We fully back the course of action taken by Nelspruit Golf Club, supported by the Mpumalanga Golf Union. We trust the unacceptable actions that happened at Nelspruit Golf Club and the consequences thereof will serve as a reminder to all our members that the SAGA condemns any acts of violence or discrimination and will act upon any such actions.”
