Myeki through to Match Play at All India

South Africa’s Zethu Myeki qualified for the knock out stage at the USHA All India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship with a solid comeback in the final round of the 36-hole qualifier on Wednesday.

The country’s number three ranked Myeki opened with an expensive 10-over-par 82 at Delhi Golf Club in India to tie for 27th.

However, a solid 77 in the final round saw the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation player finish in joint 19th and well within the top 32 that made the Match Play field.

The 23-year-old Border amateur will face Noramal Nuchsila from Thailand in the first round.

Fellow South African Danielle du Toit made a better start with an 80 in the first round, but the number four ranked player from Gauteng North was forced to withdraw through 13 holes in the second round.

“We are thrilled that Zethu has made it through to the Match Play,” said Womens Golf South Africa president Karen Olivant.

“Unfortunately Danielle (du Toit) came down with a very bad case of sinusitis and was forced to withdraw, so all our hopes are riding on Zethu. She is very excited and, of course, she has an excellent match play record back home. She thrives under the pressure in this format and we are confident that she will make a great start.”

Nur Dirriah Damian from Malaysia carded successive rounds of 73 to edge out Seher Atwal from India by one stroke to win the stroke play qualifier on two over 146.
