Myeki on the move at All India Championship

South Africa’s number three ranked Zethu Myeki made easy work of her first round match in the USHA All India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Myeki from Border booked her spot in the knock out stages with rounds of 82 and 77 for a joint 19th finish in the 36-hole qualifier at Delhi Golf Club on Wednesday. The Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation player took control of the first round match against Noramal Nuchsila and eliminated the Thai 3 & 2 to cross the first hurdle.

“It was a very exciting match, especially towards the end when Zethu very nearly holed her bunker shot at 16,” said Womens Golf South Africa president Karen Olivant.

“Zethu played solid throughout the match and she is primed for what promises to be a tough contest against Gauri Karhade from India in Friday’s second round.”

Top ranked Nur Dirriah Damian from Malaysia was taken all the way to the 18th hole by 17-year-old Tanirika Singh, who just made the top 32 to qualify for the match play. The three-time Malaysian Amateur champion eventually prevailed to win 1-up.

India’s Seher Atwal whipped Gemma Claws from England 6 & 5 to advance, but another tournament favourite, Tvesa Malik, made a shock departure when she was lost 1-up to 16-year-old Shagun Narian from Punjab.

Amanda Tan from Singapore scored the biggest win of the day when she stunned Jakia Sultana from Bangladesh. Tan needed only 12 holes to beat Jakia 7 & 6 to set up a second round meeting with India’s top draw, Diksha Dagar.
