Monique Smit returns to golf to win at Clovelly
Southern Cape’s Monique Smit returned to tournament golf after a break to win the 54 hole Gus Ackerman Trophy played at Clovelly Country Club on Saturday and Sunday. She won on the second play-off hole against Eastern Cape’s Iliska Verwey after both players carded one-over par 217.
Henriette Frylinck, playing out of Waterkloof Golf Club finished one stroke back on 218, followed by local player Yvette du Plessis on 219 and Gauteng’s Nicole Garcia on 220.
Second round leader, KZN’s Johmari Logtenberg, after carding 72 and 70, fell back to a disappointing 79 in the final round to finish joint sixth with Alana van Greuning (Mpumalanga).
Monique Smit also won the Jonathan Ackerman 21 and Under Trophy, played over 36 holes, on 153, two strokes ahead of local player Emelia Coetzer.
