Mitchell leads, Meyers chases in North West Open
Gauteng amateur David Meyers fired a blistering eight-under-par 64 to finish within striking distance of 36-hole leader Malcolm Mitchell in the North West Open Championship at Rustenburg Golf Club on Saturday.
Mitchell from KwaZulu-Natal was equally impressive with a seven under 65 to move into pole position at nine-under-par 135.
Meyers from Dainfern leads by one stroke from Danie van Niekerk from Lichtenburg, who returned a one under 71.
Local hero Aubrey Beckley carded a 70 to tie for fourth on four under 140 alongside Italian amateur Phillip Geerts (71), Gauteng North’s Reinhardt Blaauw (72) and Ekurhuleni’s Kyle McClatchie (72).
Reigning Free State Open champion Keegan de Lange from Gauteng North sits alone at three under after rounds of 71 and 70.
The 72-hole stroke play championship concludes today.
