Millie and Admund win the prizes in Paris!

Millie was ectatic after she and Admund Gelderbloem successfully defended the title held by SA at the Peugeot International Pro-Am Finals from 23 to 28 August at the St Germain Golf Course in Paris.

Millie has earlier qualified in Port Elizabeth since her club East London was already fully booked for the event and she later won the National Finals at the Wanderers Country Club in Jo’burg.

They played a Pro – Am with Frederic Cupillard a local professional who was able to help them with lines and distances. The competition was Betterball Medal.

Millie reports, “On the first day we were leading Chile by 13 shots in the gross event and on day two we increased the lead to 15 shots. We tied the nett with Chile on 161, but as we had won the gross, they received the nett prize. I also got the Longest Drive for the ladies and Admund had the nearest the pin for men.”Millie and Admund pick up the prizes in Paris!

THE SAGA OF MILLIE’S LOST CLUBS

After several problems with flight changes, bookings and the check in, Millie reported, ” When we eventually finished checking in and going through the gates, I saw my Golf Bag on the side alone and I went back to ask if it they haven’t forgotten it, but the gentlemen told me that it was fine they are going to put it with fragile stuff, then I proceeded but I was not very happy.

“Arriving in Paris, we got to our Carousel and found all our luggage except my Golf Bag! We went to inquiries and sat there for two hours trying to explain and describing my bag. They offered to pay me 100 Euros, for the bag but I told them that would not even cover the Putter!”

She was subsequently told that her clubs were still in Jo’burg!

“On Tuesday, we were to play our practice round. The tournament committee had organized a set of clubs to play with but they were the oldest set of mens iron and I wanted to cry because my Eastern Cape sports department has given me the top of the range clubs. I was still optimistic that my clubs would at least arrive before I teed off. Admund told me that he was not going to practice and I could use his clubs. They were still mens clubs but at least they were not old clubs, they were Titanium and I play with Graphite, there was a big difference but it was better that nothing.”

Millie added “To my playing partner Admund who showed me UBUNTU by giving me his golf clubs to practice and was even willing to play with the inferior club so as to give me the chance to play well for our country, I salute him, he will be my friend for life.”

After many hours worrying and loads of tears her clubs eventually arrived in time for her tee-off on the first day of the competition.
