Michelle Leigh attends gSports Awards

Michelle Leigh reports, “On Monday, 1 August 2011, I was given the honor of representing WGSA at the gSports Awards held at the Wanderers Club. It was gSports fifth birthday and they celebrated in style honoring Womens month in South Africa.

Gsport is an association that strives to recognise top sportswomen in our country and attempts to bring attention to these sports so that there may be more sponsorships and support from companies. Gsport was started and is still run by one of South Africa’s top sporting enthusiasts, Kass Naidoo and her husband Ryk Meiring.

At these awards people are honored in different categories. There is a Style Star of the year which went to Shashi Naidoo, Sportswoman of the Year which went to Pietie Coetzee, Sponsor of the Year went to Spar and every year they enter one lady into the gSport Hall of Fame.

“WGSA was nominated in the Sports Association category. Based on votes received from the public, the winning association was Surfing (SSA).

“It was an experience of a life time being able to sit in the company of so many great sportswomen that we all look up to.

“We need to stand together and put WGSA’s name out there and maybe next year one of WGSA’s talented golfers will be honoured as Sportswoman of the Year. The gSports … for Girls web site is www.gsport.co.za”
