Mclachlan and Mitchell lead the way at Wingate
Gauteng North’s Keegan Mclachlan and Malcolm Mitchell from KwaZulu-Natal are locked at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day of the Liberty Gauteng North Open after the pair carded matching rounds of 67 at Wingate Park Country Club on Saturday.
Mclachlan from Silver Lakes posted six birdies – two coming on the front nine and four coming home – while Mitchell offset a bogey on each loop with five birdies before he signed off in style with an eagle at the par five closing hole.
The pair leads the field at eight under 136.
Aubrey Beckley matched their second round scores to slip into third, one shot off the pace.
The North West golfer dropped a shot at the six but got his campaign back on track with birdies at eight and 13, and an eagle at the 15th put the TuksSport Golf Academies player in a strong position to jostle for victory today.
And just one day after Garrick Higgo was named to the Golf RSA Junior team for the upcoming African Amateur Championship team competition and the All-Africa Junior Golf Championship, the Boland junior was in impressive form,
Higgo notched a trio of birdies on the back nine for a four-under-par 68 and a share of fourth at five under alongside David McIntyre and Burt Gildenhuys from Central Gauteng.
